Detailed Product Overview

Rated for currents up to 1000 A on conductors up to 50 mm, the HIOKI CT6846A AC/DC High-accuracy Current Clamp extends clamp-on measurement to high-current circuits. Its zero-flux fluxgate technology holds a basic accuracy of ±0.2 % rdg across both AC and DC, even when the temperature changes during the measurement, because the fluxgate element shows practically no drift. Its bandwidth from DC to 100 kHz also captures rapid current changes for precise current and power measurement on heavy vehicles and other highpower systems.

It measures the high currents found on the battery main lines and drive systems of trucks, buses, and other heavy electric vehicles, reaching conductor sizes beyond what the smaller clamps in the series are built for. Even in cold climates or inside enclosed power electronics housings, its -40 °C to 85 °C operating range keeps measurements possible.

Flexible connection to measurement systems

The CT6846A connects to HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001 through its ME15W connector, which carries the measurement signal and delivers the sensor's power supply at the same time, so no separate supply is needed; the same direct connection applies to the MR6000 Memory Recorder through the U8977 current unit. Oscilloscopes and other DAQ systems connect instead through a HIOKI current sensor interface (CT9555, CT9556, CT9557), which converts the ME15W signal to a BNC output and supplies the sensor's power, at a voltage output ratio of 2 mV/A.

The CT6846A's 50 mm opening also takes in the thick, rigid busbars and cables typical of heavy-vehicle drive systems. For measurement points further from the instrument, such as in truck and bus workshops or depots, the 3-meter cable can be extended to up to 10 m using two CT9902 extension cables. The CT6846A's phase error scales as a fixed time delay rather than shifting with frequency, which is why a single correction value is all HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001 need to compensate it automatically, in the same way an oscilloscope's deskew function keeps channels aligned. Current and voltage stay in step across the band as a result, so power measurements remain accurate under high-frequency and low-power-factor conditions.

Ready for high currents up to 1000 A

The CT6846A brings the series' high-current capability to circuits up to 1000 A, in the same 50 mm form factor as the CT6845A and CT6847A. Where currents exceed 1000 A, the CT6847A continues the range in the identical form factor. Its zero-flux stability ensures accurate measurement alike in workshops, depots, and the field.
