The HIOKI CT6847A AC/DC High-accuracy Current Clamp combines the flexibility of a clamp-style sensor with a basic accuracy of ±0.15 % rdg. It lets you measure currents without breaking the circuit while keeping the accuracy needed for precise power analysis. Its zeroflux measurement principle provides stable, accurate measurement of both AC and DC currents, even if the temperature changes during the measurement, because the fluxgate element shows practically no temperature drift. With a maximum rating of 2000 A DC and 1400 A AC rms and a bandwidth from DC to 70 kHz, it accurately captures rapid current changes for demanding measurements in renewable energy, e-mobility, and power electronics.

It measures the large DC currents that flow on the busbars of energy storage and photovoltaic systems, on megawatt chargers, and in heavy electric vehicles, capturing the DC level together with the ripple and switching content from the power conversion. Its wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C allows measurements even under extreme conditions, such as in cold climates or inside enclosed power electronics housings, supporting efficiency evaluation and the early detection of anomalies or performance loss. 

Seamless fit into any measurement setup 

The CT6847A connects to oscilloscopes and other data acquisition (DAQ) systems through a HIOKI current sensor interface (CT9555, CT9556, CT9557), which converts the sensor's ME15W signal to a BNC output and supplies its power, at a voltage output ratio of 1 mV/A. HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001, and the MR6000 Memory Recorder through the U8977 current unit, connect the sensor directly through their own ME15W port, with no interface required. Its compact housing installs easily alongside the rest of the measurement setup. Where the 3-meter cable doesn't reach the measurement point, for instance in large storage or charging installations, up to two CT9902 extension cables extend the run to 10 m.

HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001 automatically compensate the CT6847A's phase error, using a single correction value akin to an oscilloscope's deskew function. This single value works because the phase error is essentially a constant time delay rather than one that changes with frequency, so current and voltage remain aligned across the full band. Accurate power measurement is preserved even at high frequencies and low power factors. 

2000 A DC or 1400 A AC 

With the CT6847A, HIOKI extends its precision current clamp series with a model that reaches up to 2000 A DC at even higher accuracy. It shares the 50 mm form factor of the CT6845A and CT6846A, extending that opening to the top of the series' current range. Its zero-flux stability keeps it accurate even during the continuous operation of storage and charging installations.
