Detailed Product Overview

The HIOKI CT6845A AC/DC High-accuracy Current Clamp measures rated currents up to 500 A and accepts conductors up to 50 mm, for larger cables and busbars. Its zero-flux fluxgate technology holds a basic accuracy of ±0.2 % rdg across both AC and DC. If the temperature changes during the measurement, that accuracy still holds, because the fluxgate element barely reacts. Its bandwidth from DC to 200 kHz also captures the battery and consumer currents that enter the energy balance in WLTP measurements on passenger and commercial vehicles.

Its 50 mm opening reaches the thicker cables and busbars found in commercial vehicles and charging equipment, where the CT6844A's smaller opening would not fit around the conductor. Its wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C covers both winter use outdoors and measurements inside the engine compartment of commercial vehicles.

One sensor for lab, field, and test bench

For oscilloscopes and other data acquisition (DAQ) systems, the CT6845A connects through a HIOKI current sensor interface (CT9555, CT9556, CT9557), which converts the sensor's ME15W signal to a BNC output and supplies its power, at a voltage output ratio of 4 mV/A. HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001, and the MR6000 Memory Recorder through the U8977 current unit, connect the sensor directly through their own ME15W port instead. With a 50 mm core diameter, the CT6845A fits around the thicker, rigid cables and busbars that cannot be bent around a smaller clamp's opening. The 3-meter cable is enough for most setups, and can be extended by up to 10 m with two CT9902 extension cables where the measurement point is farther from the instrument.

Power measurements stay accurate even at high frequencies and low power factors, because HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001 automatically correct the CT6845A's phase error. A single correction value is sufficient for this, since the phase error is essentially a constant time delay across the frequency range rather than a frequencydependent shift, similar in principle to an oscilloscope's deskew function keeping channels aligned.

500 A on conductors up to 50 mm

The CT6845A carries the same 500 A rating as the CT6844A but accepts conductors up to 50 mm, extending precise measurement to the thicker cables found on commercial vehicles and larger installations. That larger core costs some bandwidth, 200 kHz against the CT6844A's 500 kHz with its smaller opening. In the field as in the lab, its zero-flux stability keeps it reliably accurate.
