Detailed Product Overview
With a bandwidth from DC to 2 MHz, the HIOKI CT6841A AC/DC High-accuracy Current Clamp resolves the fastest current changes in the series, at rated currents up to 20 A on conductors up to 20 mm. Its zero-flux fluxgate technology holds a basic accuracy of ±0.2 % rdg across both AC and DC. Even if the temperature changes during the measurement, that accuracy holds, because the fluxgate element is largely insensitive to it.
The combination of small size and non-invasive clamping suits both automotive auxiliary wiring, such as wiper motors, window motors, seat heaters, and LED lighting circuits, and university and research bench setups, where circuits are measured as built rather than cut open. Its wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C covers both settings, from a hot engine compartment to a controlled lab bench.
From power analyzer to oscilloscope
Via a HIOKI current sensor interface (CT9555, CT9556, CT9557), the CT6841A connects to oscilloscopes and other data acquisition (DAQ) systems; the interface converts the sensor's ME15W signal to a BNC output and supplies the sensor's power in the process, at a voltage output ratio of 100 mV/A. HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001, and the MR6000 Memory Recorder through the U8977 current unit, connect the sensor directly through their own ME15W port, with no interface needed. At 20 mm core diameter, the CT6841A still fits where space around the conductor is tight, such as around densely packed connectors or wiring harnesses. The 3-meter cable is enough for most lab and vehicle measurements.
When used with HIOKI power analyzers such as the PW8001 and PW4001, phase shift correction is supported, compensating the sensor's phase error automatically. This works well because the CT6841A is designed so that its phase error corresponds to an essentially constant time delay across its frequency range, in other words a linear phase response. A single correction value therefore keeps the current and voltage channels aligned over the band, much like the deskew function of an oscilloscope, preserving accurate power measurement even under high-frequency and low-power-factor conditions.
2 MHz bandwidth for small, fast currents
Within the 20 mm class it shares with the CT6843A and CT6844A, the CT6841A is the specialist for bandwidth, resolving current changes up to 2 MHz, while the other two reach further into the current range at up to 700 kHz and 500 kHz. Its zero-flux stability keeps these results consistent through daily use, whether on the vehicle or on the lab bench.
