Detailed Product Overview
The HIOKI MR8740T is a modular Memory Recorder designed for R&D, validation, end-of-line testing and automated production testing where high-channel-count measurements need to be acquired simultaneously. With 27 configurable module slots, it supports up to 108 isolated analogue channels or mixed configurations of analogue, logic and signal generation modules, allowing multiple instruments to be consolidated into a single measurement system. Simultaneous sampling at up to 20 MS/s ensures precise time correlation across all measurement channels, making the recorder ideal for applications such as ECU validation, battery testing, power electronics development and industrial control system testing.
The MR8740T can be used either as a complete standalone measurement workstation or as part of an automated test system. An integrated Windows-based PC, built-in measurement and analysis software, and a 480 GB SSD provide everything required for standalone operation without an external computer. For system integration, the recorder includes 19-inch rack mounting brackets, supports SCPI command control for seamless integration into automated test systems, and enables live measurement data transfer and recording to an external PC via LAN for centralized data acquisition and long-duration testing.
A Modular Platform for Every Measurement Challenge
With 27 module slots, the MR8740T can be freely configured for a wide range of measurement applications. Depending on the installed modules, the system supports up to 108 isolated analogue channels or mixed-signal configurations with up to 96 analogue and 48 logic channels.
The MR8740T Memory Recorder offers 14 interchangeable input modules covering electrical and physical measurements. The lineup includes seven voltage modules, ranging from 6½-digit Digital Voltmeter Units for high-accuracy DC measurements to high-voltage modules supporting direct measurements up to 1000 V DC or 700 V AC, alongside general-purpose and high-speed voltage modules for waveform acquisition. Additional modules support current, thermocouple temperature, strain, vibration, frequency and logic measurements, as well as a wide range of physical quantities such as force, pressure, torque, displacement and rotational speed when used with compatible sensors.
The modular architecture allows different signal types to be combined within one synchronized measurement system, eliminating the need for multiple dedicated instruments while providing the flexibility to adapt the recorder to changing test requirements.
Integrated Current Measurement from mA to kA
The MR8740T supports HIOKI's extensive portfolio of current sensors for applications ranging from milliamps to thousands of amperes. Compatible sensors connect directly to the U8977 3-channel Current Module, which supplies sensor power, automatically recognizes the connected sensor, enabling synchronized high-speed current measurements. Alternatively, the recorder's analogue voltage modules can be used with wideband current probes featuring a BNC output, powered via the 3269 or 3272 Power Supplies for Current Probes.
One Platform for Measurement and Signal Generation
The MR8740T combines measurement and signal generation in a single instrument, enabling developers to stimulate a device under test while simultaneously recording its response. Compatible generator modules include waveform, pulse and arbitrary waveform generators, as well as the exclusive U8794 VIR Generator Unit, which can generate voltage, current and simulated resistance signals. This makes it ideal for simulating analogue sensors, thermistors and other resistive devices during ECU and electronic control system testing. Generator settings can be configured directly on the recorder or using the free SF8000 software, allowing complete test sequences to be created without additional signal generators or external synchronization hardware.
Built for Long-Duration Measurements
The built-in 480 GB SSD supports real-time recording without interrupting data acquisition. The real-time save function allows continuous recording without waiting for measurements to finish before data is written to storage. Depending on the number of active channels, recordings can be performed at sampling rates of up to 5 MS/s directly to the internal SSD. Data can also be saved to USB storage devices or transferred automatically to a network computer via FTP. This is particularly useful for endurance testing, production monitoring and long-duration validation tests.
Powerful Trigger and Analysis Functions
The MR8740T provides flexible trigger functions for reliable event capture, supporting analogue triggers (such as voltage level or voltage drop), logic triggers, interval triggers and external triggers. Transient events, switching operations and signal faults are captured precisely when they occur.
Integrated numerical and waveform calculations enable rapid evaluation directly on the recorder. Available functions include calculations such as maximum, minimum, peak-to-peak, average, RMS, frequency and pulse width, as well as mathematical waveform operations, scaling and pass/fail evaluation, allowing measurement results to be verified before exporting the data.
From Standalone Operation to Fully Automated
Test Systems The MR8740T features an integrated PC, eliminating the need for an external control PC. Measurement data can be stored locally on the built-in SSD or transferred via LAN using integrated FTP server and client functions. In addition, the recorder supports remote control via SCPI commands, allowing easy and fast integration into automated test systems.
For waveform evaluation and post-processing, HIOKI provides the free Wave Viewer and MR6000 Viewer software. Drivers for MATLAB® and LabVIEW™ are also available for custom automation software
