Detailed Product Overview
Leakage currents in electrical installations originate from equipment such as switching power supplies, filters, and inverters and are often below the measurement range of conventional clamp meters, making it unclear where the leakage current originates. The HIOKI CM4002 AC leakage clamp meter measures leakage currents down to 60 µA and enables evaluation of very small leakage currents in electrical installations. The instrument provides six measurement ranges from 6 mA to 200 A AC, covering both
leakage current and load current measurement. Leakage currents can be assessed in
relation to RCD operation, while differential current corresponds to the residual current
flowing to earth and load current indicates the current in individual conductors.
Leakage current evaluation in electrical installations
With a maximum conductor diameter of 40 mm, the CM4002 accommodates larger conductors and multi-core cables in distribution systems, where leakage currents from multiple circuits need to be measured. The instrument is designed for leakage current measurement under installation conditions as defined in IEC/EN 61557-13.The CM4002 covers a frequency range from 15 Hz to 2 kHz, allowing measurement of
higher-frequency leakage currents such as those generated by inverters and switching power
supplies. A selectable 50/60 Hz filter suppresses higher-frequency components and isolates
the leakage current relevant to RCD tripping.
A threshold alarm indicates when a defined leakage current level is exceeded and provides a
pass or fail indication relative to a user-defined limit, supporting comparison with RCD
tripping levels or installation limits.
Additional functions for electrical installations
The display shows current and frequency simultaneously. It is backlit and supports measurements in low-light environments. Additional functions include Auto Hold, Max/Min/Avg recording, inrush current measurement, and peak value recording for capturing transient current peaks.Rated CAT IV 300 V / CAT III 600 V, the CM4002 is intended for measurements in fixed
installations, distribution panels, and electrical systems in residential, commercial, and
industrial environments.
Bluetooth communication
Bluetooth communication is available using the optional Z3210 Bluetooth Adapter. Measurement data can be transferred to a smartphone or tablet for documentation and further processing, including annotation and report creation. Measured values can also be displayed in real time on a smartphone or tablet when the instrument is installed in locations where the display is not easily visible. The Z3210 supports HID functionality, enabling direct input of measured values into Excel or
other applications. In this mode, the adapter is recognized as a Bluetooth keyboard by the
connected device.
Designed and manufactured in Japan.
For decades, HIOKI has been developing current sensing technologies for precise measurement in electrical systems. Leakage clamp meters, clamp meters, and clamp multimeters are developed and manufactured at the company’s own facility in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Close integration of development and manufacturing, along with control over sensor technology, mechanics, and electronics, defines the instruments in daily use. What’s special about HIOKI’s AC Leakage Current Clamps?
