Detailed Product Overview

Leakage currents in electrical installations can cause nuisance RCD trips, insulation faults, or unexpected shutdowns that are difficult to trace. The HIOKI CM4001 AC leakage clamp meter measures currents from 600 µA to 600 A, including very small leakage currents in electrical installations. Its slim jaws with a 24 mm opening fit between closely spaced conductors and allow measurements in confined installation environments such as control cabinets and distribution panels. 

Versatile for Leak and Load Currents

The CM4001 measures leakage, differential, and load currents using True RMS detection. When clamped around all active conductors of a circuit, the instrument measures differential current (residual current) to verify the operation of Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs). Clamping a single conductor allows load current measurement for checking circuit load conditions and identifying abnormal current draw in connected equipment. 

Five AC current ranges from 60.00 mA to 600.0 A cover a wide measurement span. The clamp meter detects leakage currents starting at 600 µA while also handling load currents up to 600.0 A. Its measurement bandwidth extends from 40 Hz to 1 kHz. A selectable low-pass filter removes high-frequency components so that the 50/60 Hz leakage current relevant to RCD testing can be evaluated even in circuits that include inverters or switching power supplies. 

Functions for service and installation work

The comparator function provides immediate pass/fail indication with a red backlight and buzzer when the preset threshold is exceeded. Additional functions include frequency measurement, Auto Hold, Max/Min/Avg memory, Inrush current measurement (up to 150 ms), and Peak value recording, improving efficiency during inspection and troubleshooting. 

Rated CAT III 300 V, the CM4001 is suitable for measurements in fixed installations, distribution panels, and electrical switchboards in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Its compact size and measurement versatility make it an essential tool in every technician’s toolkit. 

With the optional Z3210 Wireless Adapter, measurement data can be transferred via Bluetooth to the GENNECT Cross app for logging, labeling, and on-site PDF reporting. The wireless connection also allows the meter’s readings to be viewed directly on a smartphone or tablet, which is particularly useful when the instrument is positioned where the display cannot be easily seen.
