Advanced Earth Testing for 4-Pole and Soil Resistivity Measurement
Compact Earth Testing for 2-Pole and 3-Pole Checks
The HIOKI Earth Testers FT6031-50 and FT6031-90 are designed for maintenance, periodic inspection, and service work on grounding systems, including existing earth electrodes in buildings and electrical installations. They support standards-compliant earth resistance measurement in accordance with IEC 60364 and EN 61557-5, combining more precise 3-pole measurement with a simplified 2-pole method when a full setup with auxiliary earth spikes is not possible.
Both instruments are rated IP67 for dust and water protection, making them suitable for outdoor use. The FT6031-90 additionally includes the Z3210 Bluetooth Adapter for wireless data transfer and measurement documentation.
Clamp-On Ground Testing for Multi-Earthed System
The HIOKI FT6380-50 and FT6380-90 are clamp-on earth testers for grounding checks in systems with multiple parallel earth paths. They measure ground resistance directly on the connected earth conductor without disconnecting it, making them ideal for fast on-site checks on transmission towers, tanks, industrial plants, lightning protection systems, and PV installations.
Both models also support leakage current and True RMS AC current measurement up to 60 A, with a conductor diameter up to 32 mm and CAT IV 600 V safety rating. The FT6380-90 adds Bluetooth for GENNECT Cross, mobile documentation, and HID data transfer.
Earth testing on concrete? No hammer required.
For earth measurements, auxiliary earth spikes are usually driven into the ground. But what if the surface is asphalt or concrete? Can earth nets do the trick? Kai Scharrmann went on a Saturday field trip to find out because seeing is believing - and the results were surprising.
