Detailed Product Overview
The HIOKI DT4255 is a battery powered digital multimeter for AC/DC voltage measurements up to 1000 V. It is particularly suitable for measurements on unknown AC or DC circuits, where automatic AC/DC detection supports faster checks without changing the measurement function. With compatible multi range current sensors, it also supports AC current measurements up to 1000 A.
With CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V safety ratings, the instrument is designed for measurement tasks on distribution systems and other electrical circuits. The fused voltage input and additional current limiting resistor provide added protection for voltage measurements. Additional functions include resistance, capacitance, frequency and continuity measurement, as well as diode test. During AC voltage measurement, frequency can be displayed as a secondary reading.
Current Measurement
For AC current measurement, the DT4255 supports compatible HIOKI multi range current sensors. With the 9010-50, 9018-50 and 9132-50, the instrument covers AC current measurement from 10 A up to 1000 A. This supports current measurements in distribution systems and other electrical circuits where larger currents are typically measured with external sensors rather than through direct current input.
The current sensors are connected via the 9704 Conversion Adapter. The 9010-50 and 9018- 50 cover ranges up to 500 A, while the 9132-50 extends the range up to 1000 A. For measurements up to 500 A, the 9010-50 covers frequencies up to 1 kHz, while the 9018-50 extends the frequency range up to 3 kHz and provides higher amplitude and phase accuracy. When the range selected on the instrument matches the range selected on the connected sensor, the measured value is displayed directly as a current value on the instrument.
Additional Features and Accessories
Additional functions include HOLD and AUTO HOLD, MAX/MIN/AVG display, and a low pass filter. HOLD and AUTO HOLD help retain measured values during voltage checks directly at the test point. MAX/MIN/AVG supports the review of changing readings over time. The low pass filter can be switched between OFF, 100 Hz and 500 Hz to suppress high frequency components when evaluating the fundamental of AC voltage signals, for example at inverter outputs. The instrument also provides voltage detection for preliminary checks before contact measurement.
Optional PC communication via the DT4900-01 Communication Package supports optically isolated data transfer and remote operation. The wide viewing angle display and backlight support measurement work when the instrument cannot be viewed straight on or when the measurement location is dimly lit. The supplied L9300 test leads are rated for current measurements up to 10 A and use an integrated cap with a sliding protective finger guard. For attachment to smooth magnetic surfaces such as control cabinet doors or switchgear panels, the optional Z5004 Magnetic Strap or Z5020 Extra Strong Magnetic Strap can be used.
Developed and Manufactured in Japan
Like all HIOKI digital multimeters, the DT4255 is developed in Japan and manufactured exclusively in HIOKI’s own production facilities in Japan. This supports controlled manufacturing standards and a measuring instrument that users can rely on in daily work
