Detailed Product Overview

The HIOKI DT4252 is a battery powered digital multimeter with a separate 600 mV DC range and direct AC/DC current input up to 10 A. It is intended for applications that require measurement of low DC voltages together with direct current measurement in a portable instrument. With optional isolated PC communication, it also supports PC based measurements and documentation directly at the test object. 

Voltage, Safety and Core Functions 

The instrument measures AC/DC voltage up to 1000 V and meets CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V safety ratings. Its separate 600 mV DC range allows more precise measurement of low DC voltages than the standard 600 mV DC range used in the DT4253, DT4255 and DT4256. 

Additional functions include resistance measurement, capacitance measurement, frequency measurement, continuity testing and diode test. During AC voltage measurement, frequency can be displayed as a secondary reading. Additional functions include HOLD and AUTO HOLD, MAX/MIN/AVG display, and a low pass filter. HOLD freezes a displayed value manually, while AUTO HOLD stores it automatically once the reading has stabilized. MAX/MIN/AVG displays the highest, lowest and average values during a measurement. The low pass filter can be switched between OFF, 100 Hz and 500 Hz to reduce high frequency content when evaluating the fundamental of AC voltage signals, for example at inverter outputs. 

PC Communication 

For PC based applications, the DT4252 supports communication via the optional DT4900-01 Communication Package. The optically isolated interface allows measured values to be transferred to a PC for recording, visualization and documentation directly at the test object. The package also supports remote operation of the instrument from the computer. 

The wide viewing angle display and backlight support measurement work when the instrument cannot be viewed straight on or when the measurement location is dimly lit. The supplied L9300 test leads are rated for current measurements up to 10 A and use an integrated cap with a sliding protective finger guard. This allows the exposed metal tip length and the applicable measurement category to be adjusted without separate caps that could be removed or lost.

Optional Accessories 

Optional accessories extend the instrument for different measurement situations. The L4933 Contact Pin Set supports measurements on narrow or recessed contact points, while the L4934 Small Alligator Clip Set helps create stable connections on smaller terminals and conductors. For hands free work, the optional Z5004 Magnetic Strap and Z5020 Extra Strong Magnetic Strap allow the instrument to be attached to metallic surfaces at the measurement location. Like all HIOKI digital multimeters, the DT4252 is developed in Japan and manufactured exclusively in HIOKI’s own production facilities in Japan. This gives HIOKI direct control over development, production and quality assurance.
