The IR5051-90 is a portable high-voltage insulation tester consisting of the IR5051 instrument and the Z3210 Bluetooth adapter. It combines standard insulation measurement functions with a dedicated PV testing mode, enabling insulation resistance testing of photovoltaic systems even during active power generation. The instrument offers five test voltage ranges from 250 V to 5 kV and seven resistance ranges from 10 MΩ to 10 TΩ. Bluetooth connectivity allows direct data transfer to smartphones or tablets for fast and efficient documentation.

What sets the IR5051 apart is its physically separate measurement section dedicated to photovoltaic (PV) insulation testing. This specialized section allows insulation resistance measurements on PV systems with test voltages up to 2000 V and insulation resistance ranges up to 100 GΩ. The best part: there is no need to wait until nightfall or interrupt power generation, as the IR5051 can perform PV insulation resistance measurements during daytime and while power is being generated – and it can do it in just 4 seconds. Imagine the time savings when measuring hundreds of inspection points on a larger PV system.

The IR5051’s compact, lightweight design makes it an ideal tool for on-site use. The included hard case ensures suitability for IP65 environments, providing protection against dust and water. With a 2000 V CAT III safety rating, it guarantees safe measurements for PV systems classified under CAT III. An automatic discharge function adds extra safety by discharging residual charge after measurements, while shielded cables and a built-in guard circuit minimize noise influence for stable, reliable results.

While insulation resistance values offer a quick assessment, they are not sufficient on their own to evaluate long-term issues such as aging, moisture intrusion, or contamination. Resistance values also fluctuate with temperature and humidity, making a single measurement unreliable for diagnosing insulation degradation over time. To address this, the IR5051 provides additional measurement modes: Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), and Dielectric Discharge (DD). These functions offer a more comprehensive picture of insulation condition.

PI evaluates insulation resistance over time to identify signs of aging and surface contamination. DAR offers a faster alternative for detecting the effects of moisture and contamination. DD analyzes the discharge behavior of accumulated charges to uncover degradation deep within the insulation. Together, these functions support a more accurate assessment of insulation health, helping to increase equipment reliability and reduce the risk of failure.

The IR5051-90 is a set that includes the Z3210 Bluetooth adapter. Bluetooth connectivity enables measurement data to be transferred wirelessly to a PC or tablet, simplifying data storage and analysis while improving overall workflow efficiency.
