Detailed Product Overview
The RM3545A-2 Resistance Meter combines high-precision DC resistance measurement with integrated multiplexer capability for automated multi-channel testing. It offers 13 measurement ranges from 1 mΩ to 1200 MΩ and a maximum test current of 1 A, providing stable, repeatable results across a wide range of components and materials. With a 6 ½-digit display, 1 nΩ resolution, and a basic accuracy of ±0.045 % rdg ± 0.010 % f.s., the instrument delivers immediate, high-precision readings without the need for warm-up or manual zero adjustment.Measurement times as short as 2.3 ms (10 Ω range, FAST mode) enable high-throughput testing and short cycle times, which is especially beneficial when the instrument is integrated into automated production lines or inspection systems. The RM3545A-2 supports all functions of the RM3545A-1 and adds multiplexer capability for efficient multi-point testing.
Integrated multiplexer capability
Two optional Z3003 Multiplexer Cards can be installed in the RM3545A-2, each providing 10 measurement channels in 4-wire mode. When two cards are fitted, the instrument can measure up to 20 channels automatically in sequence, enabling resistance evaluation of multiple DUTs without manual reconnection. This internal multiplexer configuration reduces system size, wiring effort, and cost compared to external switching systems. For automation and data acquisition, the RM3545A-2 provides LAN, USB, and RS-232C interfaces for communication with PCs and controllers, as well as an EXT I/O port for external triggering and pass/fail control. An analog D/A output (0 V to 1.5 V DC) enables monitoring or feedback control. The command-monitor function displays communication commands and responses at the bottom of the instrument’s display, simplifying debugging during system setup and reducing integration time.
Advanced precision functions
To ensure consistent measurement results under fluctuating temperature conditions, the RM3545A-2 includes a Temperature Compensation (TC) function that references measured resistance values to a defined reference temperature. This compensates for material-specific temperature coefficients, for example those of copper (approximately 0.4 % / °C). Temperature can be measured using the supplied Z2001 sensor or a compatible external analog thermometer. The Offset Voltage Compensation (OVC) function suppresses thermoelectric voltages and internal offset voltages by applying current in both directions and averaging the results. The temperature rise function calculates the actual temperature increase of the DUT from the change in resistance and ambient temperature, while the contact-check function detects insufficient probe contact and reduces errors caused by poor connections.
Future-proof investment
The RM3545A-2 keeps future expansion options open. One or two Z3003 Multiplexer Cards can be installed at any time, allowing the instrument to be upgraded from a single-channel configuration to an automated multi-channel measurement system. Installation requires only a Phillips screwdriver and takes about two minutes. This flexibility allows users to start with manual measurements or prototype setups and later expand to a fully automated test environment without replacing the instrument. For applications requiring more than 20 channels, the RM3545A-2 can alternatively be combined with the HIOKI SW1002 Multiplexer System, offering up to 132 channels in 4-wire mode.
