Detailed Product Overview
The HIOKI SP7001 CAN FD Sensor is a sensing unit designed for non-intrusive measurement of CAN and CAN FD signals. Using capacitive coupling, the SP7001 detects differential CAN signals through the insulation of the CAN-H and CAN-L lines, providing accurate signal acquisition without modifying the vehicle wiring. To perform a measurement, the sensor must be used together with an SP7100 (DC
powered) or SP7150 (USB powered) CAN Interface, and either an SP9200 screw-type or
SP9250 clamp-type probe set. The probes are attached to the insulated CAN lines, while the
interface reconstructs the detected signal and outputs it through a Vector-compatible 9-pin Dsub connector, allowing direct connection to Vector Informatik systems or to the HIOKI
PW4001 Power Analyzer.
The SP7001 is commonly used to expand an existing SP7001-90 set for monitoring a second
CAN bus, or by users who wish to build custom configurations tailored to specific test
environments. When connected to an SP7100 interface, two SP7001 sensors can operate
simultaneously to monitor two independent CAN buses.
Supporting communication speeds from 125 kbit/s to 3 Mbit/s (CAN / CAN FD), the SP7001
maintains precise timing and waveform integrity even with high-speed signals. Its noncontact sensing method allows accurate signal detection without influencing the bus load or
communication timing, ensuring dependable CAN and CAN FD measurements under real
operating conditions.
Designed for operation between -40 °C and +85 °C, the SP7001 is suitable for automotive
development, EV and HV powertrain validation, and ECU communication analysis. In
combination with compatible interfaces and probes, it provides a safe, flexible, and scalable
solution for non-intrusive CAN / CAN FD signal monitoring throughout the automotive
development process.
