Detailed Product Overview
The HIOKI SP7001-95 CAN Sensor Set combines the SP7001 non-contact CAN sensor, two SP9250 clamp type signal probes, and the SP7150 CAN interface to enable non-intrusive acquisition of CAN and CAN FD signals without any modification to vehicle wiring. Using capacitive coupling, the two SP9250 probes are clamped around the insulated CAN H and CAN L lines to detect differential signals through the cable sheath. This method enables accurate, real-time signal acquisition without galvanic contact or interference with the circuit, eliminating the need for wire stripping or connector access and minimizing the risk of short circuits, connector wear, and induced noise. Because the sensor does not alter bus characteristics, it avoids triggering ECU lockouts, allowing safe observation of communication within fully assembled vehicles.Clamp type probes and Vector compatibility
The clamp type design allows easy attachment even in confined wiring spaces, enabling quick and reliable installation without modifying the harness. It is particularly suited for laboratory measurements, evaluations, and troubleshooting during development or testing, while screw-type probes are recommended for long-term or in-vehicle measurements where vibration resistance is required. The SP7150 CAN interface reconstructs the detected signal and outputs it through a 9-pin Dsub connector compatible with Vector Informatik interfaces and the HIOKI PW4001 Power
Analyzer. This allows direct connection to CAN analysis tools or to the PW4001 without
additional adapters. Powered via a USB type C connector, the compact interface supports
125 kbit/s to 3 Mbit/s with a typical delay of 130 ns, maintaining precise timing and waveform
integrity even for high-speed CAN FD. Automatic polarity detection compensates for
reversed probe orientation, and a selectable high-sensitivity mode ensures stable operation
on long or shielded cables.
Power analysis with PW4001
When connected to the HIOKI PW4001 Power Analyzer, the SP7001-95 provides CANbased voltage data synchronized with current measurements from external current sensors. This configuration enables accurate power calculation on high-voltage systems without direct connection to battery terminals, improving operator safety and test efficiency. To interpret or decode CAN data, the user must provide a DBC (Database Container) file containing the identifiers and scaling parameters of the required signals. The PW4001 uses this information to extract the correct voltage value from the CAN data stream and combine it with the simultaneously measured current for precise power analysis. The SP7001-95 can be used independently with Vector-compatible systems or other CAN
analysis tools. In combination with the HIOKI PW4001 Power Analyzer, it forms a safe, fast,
and reliable solution for non-intrusive CAN signal acquisition and power analysis throughout
the automotive development process.
